On Sunday morning starting at 10 a.m., we had a guided tour of the Jackson’s Mill Historic Area. Normally, the fee is $7 per person but we were able to arrange the tour free for Jackson Brigade Reunion attendees. Our professional guide Joe Obidzinski did a great job tailoring his presentation to the group. We explained to him that many of our group were direct descendants of Colonel Edward Jackson, who founded Jackson’s Mill and that most of the rest of us were Jackson Family historians.

At noon we had a catered picnic lunch at the Rotary Pavilion on Jackson’s Mill 4 H grounds followed by Business Meeting and Memorial Service. The buffet-style picnic lunch consisted of hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ chicken, baked beans, fruit salad, fresh fruit pies and ice cream with drinks of iced water, iced tea and lemonade.

After the Business Meeting, Judy Donohoo, from Carrollton, Texas, organized and ran the Memorial Service to honor John Jackson and Elizabeth Cummins’ descendants and their spouses who have passed since the last reunion in 2016.

The picnic, Business Meeting, and Memorial Service were over before 3 p.m. At the picnic we learned that the Jackson Family Association Reunions of 1922-1941 were held in the grove of trees just east of the swimming pool and labelled “Shelter in the Woods” on the map. After the picnic, Dan, Mary Jane, and Scott investigated the Shelter in the Woods area. We discovered that it is now part of the Disc Golf Course that is laid out on the campus.

After visiting the Shelter in the Woods, we drove over to the Historic Jackson Cemetery which is across the road from the parking lot for the Visitor’s Center in the Jackson’s Mill Historic Area.

On the road before 4 p.m., we drove north on I-79 to the Pittsburgh Airport to drop off Scott so he could catch his flight back to Los Angeles. Another four hours driving and Mary Jane and Dan were back in Lewisburg, PA.
Another very successful Jackson Brigade Reunion was over! Lots of new people at the reunion and lots of enthusiasm!
