A story from my youth. Submitted by Dan Hyde.
When I was about five years old, I received the neatest truck and front end loader for Christmas. Both were about a foot long, metal and they really worked. Above are shown modern versions of the toys. One could scoop up stuff with the front loader’s bucket and dump the stuff in the truck. The truck’s bed could be raised and dump the stuff out the back. As a kid, I was in seventh heaven. EXCEPT it was December in upstate New York and way too cold to go outside to our sandbox or our wonderful dirt piles under the big pine tree. And no snow on the ground! What to do?
I decided to clean up the pine needles under the Christmas tree. But there weren’t very many. So when no one was looking, I gave the tree a good shake. SUCCESS! Lots of needles on the floor now and I had great fun scooping them up and dumping them in my truck.
Put on your thinking cap and send me the stories you remember from your youth!
