Henry Jackson (1774-1852), the youngest child of John Jackson and Elizabeth Cummins, had at least 23 children by his two wives — Mary Hyre and Elizabeth Shreves. This post is about one of Henry and Mary’s sons Hyer Jackson from material submitted by Nancy Jackson.
Hyer3 Jackson (Henry2, John1) was born 03 September 1806 in (West) Virginia, and died 11 June 1873 in Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon. Burial: Hillsboro Union Cemetery. He married Elizabeth Craig 24 May 1831 in Kentucky. She was born 16 February 1815 in Kentucky, and died 26 March 1909 in Oregon.
The following is from a Hillsboro, Oregon newspaper about June 15, 1873:
“The funeral of Hon. Hyer Jackson on the 13th [of June, 1873], was an imposing affair. Fifty-three wagons and buggies besides a large number on horseback and afoot followed the remains to the cemetery near Hillsboro[, Oregon]. The Good Templars marched by the residence of the deceased and formally took charge of the remains and conducted the funeral ceremonies. The flag was raised at half mast during two days by order of the county authorities in respect to the deceased. Resolutions of condolence were passed by the members of Hillsboro Lodge, I. O. G. T. of which the deceased was a member.”
