Obit for Bill Jackson, died May 28, 2024, age 99

William Andrew Jackson, age 99, of Reynoldsburg, passed away on May 28, 2024. Bill was born on April 12, 1925 to the late Jacob and Anna (Stalnaker) Jackson in Charleston, West Virginia.

 

Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He gave of his time and talent throughout his lifetime- as a coach, scout leader, Sunday school teacher and volunteer.

 

Bill served on a battleship, the USS Colorado, in the South Pacific during WWII. He graduated from Fairmont State University and taught school for one year before joining IBM. He worked as an IBM Field Engineering Specialist for 31 years before retiring at the age of 58.

 

Bill was preceded in death by Mary R. Jackson, his loving wife of 64 years. They had many wonderful adventures together. They were long-time members of the Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church and also volunteered for McCurdy Mission School for 21 years.

 

Bill is survived by his sons, William S. (Mary) Jackson, David J. Jackson, James J. (Crystal) Jackson; grandchildren, Christina (Tony) Frownfelter, Jennifer (Heath) Wooley, and Sarah (Jack) Cepanec-Leo, William Manns, Matthew Manns, and Camille (Josh) Sarnovsky; and his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madison, Corey, Lucy, Caleb, Mia, Max and Josephine. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Jackson.

 

Mary said the first thing that attracted her to Bill, was his smile. Well, he never stopped smiling. He was singing the day before he died. After telling one of his great stories recently he paused and said, “I’ve had a wonderful life.” And he really did.

 

A private family service will be held in Silent Home Cemetery in Reynoldsburg. Donations may be made in memory of Bill to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org)
